Former StemCo executive launches BioTechnology transfer
From the Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) website

Cynthia Pritchard, a former director of development for StemCo Biomedical (now Aldagen), has announced the launch of BioTechnology Transfer, a Triangle-based company that provides outsourced strategic product development and regulatory submissions for early-stage life science and medical device companies. The company's scientists and engineers specialize in designing, developing, implementing and supporting practical systems that meet FDA, ISO and ICH quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Pritchard is CEO and a founder of BioTechnology Transfer, bringing more than 25 years' experience in the medical device and diagnostic industries to the company. Billy Usrey, former operations director of Apogee Medical, will serve as COO.

BioTechnology Transfer is a CED member.

Biotech startup launches, aims for incubator status
From the Triangle Business Journal website

03/10/2006 -- The former director of development for StemCo Biomedical has launched a new Triangle biotechnology company focused on doing scientific and regulatory work for other companies.

Cynthia Pritchard, a former executive at StemCo Biomedical, now known as Aldagen, started Raleigh-based BioTechnology Transfer with the idea of using her team of scientists' experience in the biotechnology industry to offer services to other companies.

"At this stage, we're solely service providers," says Pritchard, who is chief executive officer of the company, "but we would like to become, for lack of a better word, an incubator so that small companies can come to our nest and have all of the resources they need to be successful."

Pritchard says the company, which has been in business since December, is already operating at a profit. BioTechnology Transfer is funded by its principals, including Pritchard, but has attracted interest from a number of venture capital funds.

"We started the business at the end of 2005 and it's already looking extremely promising," Pritchard says. "With the way things are going right now, we are not going to need [venture funding]."

BioTechnology Transfer currently is handling three regulatory submission projects for one undisclosed company and a due diligence project for another. Pritchard says the majority of her business has sprung from relationships developed with companies she or her colleagues have dealt with or worked for throughout their careers. BioTechnology Transfer currently has five employees, but Pritchard says that number is likely to increase depending on the company's performance.

The new company specializes in product development for early-stage life science and medical device companies. Billy Usrey, former operations director of Apogee Medical, serves as chief operating officer.
